This is a little project I spent a week on. I’m excited I was finally able to illustrate this as a children’s book for fun. This comes from a song of the same name, written by Melora Craiger from the awesomest cello rock band, Rasputina.
Rasputina has been a strong influence in my artistic life. I used to know how to play this song on a cello with friends in high school… and it’s cool now to interpret the New Zero in a different medium.
I want to play with water colors some more. These are some of the complete and incomplete attempts at plein air on location. Also sketches of my favorite record store, to try and problem solve its trickyness. sadly its incomplete, and then there are some random sketches other people asked me to do of them. Unfortunately I never get to keep them….at most snap a shot of them and the portrait and look disappointed I couldnt have gotten a better likeness or improved rendering skills. I’m not so sure if they are ever happy with it, it’s mostly a “thank you”…..oh well.
Guest speaker Brian Schirmer writer/co creator of comic series Ultrasylvania talked today on the subject of kickstarters, comics, networking and the ins and outs of exposure for future comic artist at AAU. I sat in the back and absorbed everything⭐
Used a tumblr image to capture the lighting and values I wanted, took anatomical liberties on this one no doubt. Def more cartoony than real life.
I have been choosing to step aside from my usual homework and at least dedicate an hour or two on making something under an hour. this including tweaks and changes once photographed 5million Times. Is it me or do painters and illustrators photograph their work to see their mistakes in value, contrast and design? It’s something I do. It can be scary because it’s easy to jack something up in such a short period of time….but I guess there’s no right or wrong when it comes to fun.
